While some aren't interested in this stuff other than just being able to tell time (and some not even that, right Coosa? Lol) in the slightest, I find it fascinating.

Shelly:  Did you see the REI catalogue?  There is a $110 WRIST GPS that will at least let you know where you are and not break the bank doing so.  Campmor, I think, has an altimeter, thermometer, thingie that hangs from a pack.  BUT, having just read the new BACKPACKER Magazine.  I would suggest practicing with the GPS and map BEFORE you take off -- AND be sure it's callibrated correctly.

I am going to suggest the wrist GPS as a Santa gift this Christmas.  (Yes, I believe in Santa Claus -- he gave me a cashmere sweater this year for Christmas.)
