The shortage of hot soap and water showers while on the trail in 1993 solved most of my dry skin problems. My hands did become massively red and chapped in Georgia. I finally remembered a small tube of petroleum ointment in my pack. That solved the hand problem. After a bit I just became used to living outside and I needed no such special "medications." Weary
