[at-l] Gonzo quote

I was a fan also, in fact I just taped "Fear & Loathing" the other night
to re-view the 1998 movie.

One sweet & sour memory I have of Hunter Thompson, is of attending a
lecture at the Somerville Theater, Davis Square, mid-1980's. The 8 PM show
was delayed about 3 hours while Hunter got it together to come out on
stage. By this time his drug-induced paranoia had taken hold. He came out
from stage-right with 2 body guards, a bottle of Jack Daniel's (perhaps
Chivas), sat down at a table looked at the audience, pounded the table and
shouted "Don't F*** with me, I can handle all of you".

The rest of the evening was pretty much an incoherent ramble, with
audience members asking questions at a central microphone & Hunter
abusing, ignoring, etc as he wished. The audience left stunned about 12:30
only to walk by the people standing in line for the 10 PM show, who were
then told just to go home. A memorable evening for those who saw the whole
thing unfold. I still have that ticket stub somewhere! --RockDancer

Also: Here's a link to a similar evening with Hunter, held in NYC in 1988,
called "Poltics, Insanity and the Moat of Swine", Thompson was taking his
"Fear & Loathing" stuff on the road just after the '88 election.
