Different people see things differently.  I have SAD.  Winter has 
always been a depressing time to me.   I did appreciate the natural 
beauty, but like I said it felt dead to me.  I need live, green, 
growing things around me to really feel comfortable.

FWIW, this is part of why I didn't like California when I visited.  
I'll never be a desert person either.
