News on one of my personal heroes, Granny D -
a woman who didn't waste breath bitching, she went and DID something
about the issues that troubled her.
Just an inspiring example of what ONE citizen-activist can do... can
you imagine walking across the entire country in your 80s for
something you believed in?
Granny D is MY model for a graceful "sunset" life - a sassy, active,
smart, funny, butt-kicking, hip, money-where-her-mouth-is, young "old"
lady! I wish her well.

Granny D Hospitalized For Throat Surgery
Procedure Could Silence Activist's Voice
POSTED: 10:49 am EST February 4, 2005
CONCORD, N.H. -- Doris "Granny D" Haddock, one of the nation's most
relentless voices for campaign finance reform, has been silenced by a
surgery that could cost her her voice.
Haddock, who ran for the U.S. Senate last year and gained national
attention by walking across the country to promote campaign finance
reform, underwent surgery on her windpipe Thursday.
"She is strong, and a full recovery is expected, but the long-term
prospects of whether she would regain use of her well-known voice is
uncertain," said family spokesman Dennis Burke.
The 95-year-old Democrat used her well-known New England-tinged voice
last year to run against Republican Sen. Judd Gregg, who defeated her
66 percent to 34 percent.
