In Scotland they eat porridge (oats) with salt, not sugar. I use sugar on
my oatmeal but salt & pepper & butter on my grits; sometimes I add a dash of
hot sauce, or cheese, or bacon bits, or redeye gravy. Gosh this talk makes
me hungry for grits!

<WELL!!! I grew up in the Mississippi Delta, where Southerners really <know
what's what, and we ate our grits with butter and sugar. You eat <oatmeal
with sugar, don't you? I don't know of anyone who eats oatmeal <with salt
and pepper, so why should we not eat grits with sugar?!
