[at-l] Perception/Quote

The main problem with we mere humans IS our imperfection. Every human failing proceeds therefrom. That's why one of my favorite bumper stickers says "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven". Churches, being run by imperfect humans, are consequently imperfect themselves. You can only TRY to do your best; and some do better than others.
(OK, so much for religion...politics next?)

It is so sad how true that article is. It's true about every church I've
ever attended, if I stayed long enough to see it. It's been true about me in
the past. It may be true about me again in the future.

The most recent church that I went to regularly takes in ~500,000 per month,
but their outlay to local charities (foodbank, free clinic, etc.) was 400
dollars! That's 8/100ths of 1%. My wife and I felt very comfortable and
accepted there, but our consciences wouldn't let us stay. As of now, we're
just tithing directly to the food bank. We don't know what else to do. There
is one church in a nearby county that has a program which feeds ~2,000
people on a weekly basis. However, stories like that are few and far
between.

There is no way that Christians will ever truly convert large numbers of
folks until we make the old saw true and "practice what we preach." Like a
lot of things, it's a one-day-at-a-time, every day type of thing.

Nice try Liteshoe.

If only good attitudes and optimism were universally infectious.

There is a role for the Puritan in the hiking community. As in other
communities, continuous harangues quickly lose their credibility. The
continuous claim that cell phone users are base libertines in need of body
bags grows old. The idea that arsonists are somehow ethical
environmentalists lowers credibility further. Those living on barrier
islands shouldn't throw stones about endangered wetlands and sprawl.

The role of the Puritan is to demonstrate that there are few absolute truths.

So, we need a few.
