[at-l] Another Fund Raiser Option
I agree.
Fundraising at RUCKs began with the PARUCK, seeking funds to help
maintenance and care for the IronMasters Mansion. There have been raffles
and such.
We made fund raising a bit more formal last year at Camp Thornwell. I
passed a can for Polio Eradication during Saturday Breakfast, clearing $32
given to Polio Plus. We had a gear sale, with proceeds going to something.
The same something was funded with $3 for Saturday lunch.
The meals at the SORUCKs have been largely Southern Pot Luck / Covered Dish
supper affairs. I've kept the blueberry pancake thing going, at least as
the first "tradition" of the SORUCK. I am not a vendor or anyone with a
financial interest in the AT. I'd be glad to allow some vendor to sponsor
it, but I'd hate to give up the fun of planning and cooking - and sitting
on my ass for the rest of the weekend.
I would prefer that we didn't do a fund raiser. I'd prefer that the gear
table would be freebie gear for someone who wants the heavy antiquated
stuff from our gear closets. I don't expect any vendors to donate their
income to a SORUCK charity fund.
I like it simple. But it has gotten bigger than simple.
I defer to those working and organizing this affair.
