[at-l] Re: SORUCK fundraiser

Don't let me influence your decisions, since I won't be there, but I kind of liked the original suggestion, i.e. a donation to MATC in memory of Keith Shaw. MATC is one of the smaller maintaining clubs, but at 273 miles has far more trail to maintain than any club except Potomac. And I doubt if any other club has a more difficult access problem. Many of our maintenance sections require maintainers to walk many miles just to reach the trail. MATC operates on an annual budget of $150,000 a year, of which only $9,000 is raised by dues from our 500+ members. And it almost all goes towards trail maintenance. Last year we did hire a partime person to help with some of the bookkeeping. MATC is one of the few maintaining clubs that is strictly devoted to maintenance. We have a winter pot luck social -- total cost $20 for the hall -- but offer no hikes, excursions, social meetings. We get more fun out of just trying to make our 273 miles the best of the entire trail.
