Another way from Atlanta is up 400 straight across at the end instead of left to Dahlonega.
Into Cleveland, to Helen on to Hiawassee to Murphy then 74 to NOC.
Well, at least it was when I lived there.

Of course, I won't be startin' out from Commerce, but the way I ALWAYS go to NOC is North on 575/515 to Blue Ridge. I turn left on Hwy 60 following signs to Mineral Bluff, GA. Right before you get to the town of Mineral Bluff, there is a road on the right that is a short cut to Murphy. It's called Hwy 60 Spur. In NC, that road blends into Hwy 19/74/. Nantahala and Wesser are both a little bit further North on 19/74.
Yahoo map was a little confusing to me. I've just scanned a map for your convenience and will send it separately.
By the way, I agree with OrangeBug, as he said below:

From ATL, it may be better to take I 575 or GA 400 north toward
Hiawassee/Blairsville and up to Murphy and on to Wesser.
It will all be good.
