OB....This is where we were talking about going and, hopefully, joining you.
Jan is finally ready to do some "flat land" hiking. I sent a message to Jon
a while back to ask some questions, but guess I should have sent it to to
Joan.

>> Hikin' worthies, please join Cent. FL Chapter, FTA for a Ruck at
>> beautiful, peaceful Camp Doe, SW corner of Ocala National Forest over the
>> New Year's weekend. We'd like your attendance, plus participation in any
>> of the traditional Ruck events: Panel of '04 AT survivors, a Women's
>> Issues discussion and ultra-light gear/techniques, beginnin' 9 AM
>> ,Sat.,1Jan.
>>
>> For years our FTA Chapter has retreated to the woods to hike, bike,
>> paddle and just plain enjoy nature and each away, away from...dare I say
>> it: civilization. Camp Doe is a hunt camp on pleasant Lake Doe, reserved
>> for us alone. Only a few hook-ups (1st come, 1st served) but plenty of
>> campin' space. Alas, hangin' hammocks from trees is not permitted (a
>> demo would be OK). Spotless, 1st-class bathrooms/showers. Kitchen
>> w/microwave ovens, 'fridges, a freezer and an ice machine (but no
>> range/oven) is open to all. Fireplace inside and fire-ring outside.
>> Fishin' in lake.
>>
>> 2 group meals, 6 PM: Fri. night, Pot Luck Dinner; bring something to
>> share. Sat. night, Stone Soup; bring bread, salad, dessert or a soup
>> ingredient. Other meals on your own; a convenience store is 8 mi.
>> distant; a BBQ place is a bit further.
>>
>> Days, there are organzied outoor activities (1st one, a hike to
>> Sawgrass Isl., Fri., 2 PM); maps available for solo-adventurers. Nights,
>> slide/Power Pt. shows of any hike/bike/paddle/climb. It'd be great if we
>> could have an AT show each night.
>>
>> Cost: $5/night/pers. for camping (under age 16 and over 75, camp free).
>> A $5 surcharge for non-FTA members or you may join on the spot for
>> $25/indiv. or $30/family (cash/check or join on the FTA website, key
>> words "Florida Trail"). On the site you can click to "Central FL
>> Chapter", then "Activites" to learn more about this and other
>> trl.-related events.
>>
>>
>> You need: campin' gear, toys/gear, and food. A camp chair is nice.
>> No fireworks.
>>
>> For directions, e-mail (off-List) jonaphipps@hotmail.com or call (407)
>> 260-0592.
>>
>> Happy Trails, Jon "Wanchor" Phipps
