The Red Sox should have won years ago, they have had many good teams. 
But I still don't have to like them ... ;-)
 
They weren't fighting other teams, they were fighting themselves, and 
their fans. In the past they always found a way to screw things  up,
and after years of screwing up, their fans expected them to... 
That shows what low expectations can do... The expectation was failure, 
the surprise result was success. Not a fun way to play ball.
