Down sleeping bags fit all of the criteria that Shelley seeks. One
difficult fact of down is that you do get what you pay for. The high end
bags (FF, WM and a few others) will last at least a lifetime. The new
covers are water proof, but not vapor proof. You have to work at getting
them wet. They compress to nearly nothing. After the first night, you learn
how comfortable these mummy bags can be, allowing you to move in any
position, except spread eagle.

Go cheap on everything on your back, except the sleeping bag.
