To say nothing about the way the games have been changed to suit the tv
advertisers.  I'd rather go watch a high-school football game than pro or

It comes from an understanding that 'professional sports' are the modern
equivalents of the Roman Circuses.  The are empty and devoid of any real
meaning, but are rather provided as a sedative for the masses.  The fans are
just saps that think their team winning or losing means something, but it
doesn't.  There isn't any honor or glory in it.  It's hollow.
