True... Many did not... Many do not... That doesn't make them less than
those that do/did serve.
Thousands did whatever they could to get out of being drafted (legally).
Some
had more options open to them than others. Some became great people, even
without serving. Serving your country doesn't make you any better than those
that didn't serve. Using family connections to get out or get easier duty
doesn't
make you less a person either, unless you lie about it. Some serve because
they had no choice... Service or jail. Some serve because they want the
military
to pay for college. I think (and this is only a guess) that less serve
because they
feel it is their duty to serve their country. Though WWII was a great time
for patriots.
As for twisting an opponents words, it's called politics...
This is a hiking list (mostly), so even if you were making a valid point, it
should have
been made elsewhere.
You may also observe that "many do not hike".
And they are no less people than those that do. And you know what? This is
more
"on topic" for the list.
