[at-l] Warning to All hiker

Weary,

Reference your post, dated 10-19-04.

?(T)he Maine law ... protects private land owners from law suits by persons
recreating on their lands ... you use private land at your own risk ... you
are totally responsible for whatever happens to you. And to make sure you
don't harass landowners with law suit ... if you sue and lose ? something
that is virtually automatic given the ... law ...?

?(N)o law suits were ever filed because no lawyer would take a case with
virtually no chance of winning.?

?(L)and trusts ... (bought) insurance against non existent risks -- and some
have settled nuicance (sic) suits out of court.?

If land trusts believed the risks were non-existent, they would not buy
insurance. If insurance companies believed the risks were non-existent,
they would not have settled.

Perhaps our fearless leader - - you know, he who couldn't serve in Alabama -
- read this sign before campaigning against ?frivolous? tort law suits.

Steve
