I-85  East to I-77 North to (Wytheville) I-81 North to exit 141 and 
highway 311  North will get you to the parking lot for McAfee...
Go back to I-81 and go  north to exit 167 (Buchanon...don't stop...and, 
don't look anyone in the  eye)...pick up highway 43 and go 
south(?)...east(?)...toward the  Atlantic...about 5 miles...there should 
be signs that sign "Blue Ridge  Parkway"...You could also pick up the 
parkway closer to Roanoke if you  wanted a more pleasant drive....

And the trail up to McAfee knob is sweeter than it was in 2003. I hiked it 
this year and they added switch backs!
