[at-l] Hiking Poles



To me, it's disconcerting to put weight on the pole and have it move a 
little.

Actually, I used a rigid pole for years, and I much prefer the poles with a little "give".  I don't think that my Lekis are anti-shock, but they have some give.  The rigid ones will fly out from under the strain much easier.  The more flexible ones will stay in place better.  

That said, the metal poles don't have the personality that the wooden ones that I've had did.  For instance, I haven't named my Lekis.  My original wooden hiking pole was Agnes.  My partner's was Bertha.  When my oldest daughter hiked with us, it became obvious that her pole was a boy.  He was always tripping up our poles and stuff.  <G>
