I will be running a scheduled shuttle in Georgia (Woody Gap through
Dicks Creek Gap) during the 2005 thru-hiker season.  Below is the text
as sent to ALDHA for inclusion in the 2005 Companion.  The shuttle is
primarily for getting hikers to and from towns and hostels, and for
getting section-hikers back to their vehicles.  A side benefit is
eliminating the anxiety some hikers have over thumbing.  Shuttling up
and down Forest Service Road 42 (Woody to Springer) will be handled
informally by the Dahlonega Hiker Hostel (www.hikerhostel.com)...

Appalachian Trail Shuttle in Georgia - February 26 through April 17,
2005

The shuttle will run seven days a week, from Saturday February 26
through Sunday April 17, 2005.  The cost will be $5.00 for any length
of trip - except $10.00 to Amicalola Falls State Park.  Section hikers
who have parked at Amicalola Falls State Park can catch the shuttle to
return to their vehicles.  The shuttle will stop at six Appalachian
Trail crossings (Neels Gap, Tesnatee Gap, Hogpen Gap, Unicoi Gap, Dicks
Creek Gap, Woody Gap), four towns (Helen, Hiawassee, Suches,
Dahlonega), three hostels (Dahlonega Hiker Hostel, Neels Gap Hostel,
Blueberry Patch), four campgrounds (Vogel State Park, Goose Creek
Cabins/Campground, Lake Winfield Scott State Park, Amicalola Falls
State Park) and the Byron Reese Trail trailhead parking area (near
Neels Gap).

Scheduled shuttle stops outbound (north) and inbound (south) are listed
below.  Please be at the stops earlier than the listed times.  The
shuttle will not leave any stop prior to the listed times.  If the
shuttle has not arrived by the listed time, please wait, it is running
late.
