"Icehouse Had Fiery Demise"
Patriot News, Tuesday, September 14, 2004
<>"Laurel (Lake) and nearby Pine Grove (Furnace) have a history
predating the Revolutionary War. The area was the scene of an iron
furnace until 1895. In 1913, the state purchased the lands for $29,827
as a forest reserve.
Today's Fuller Lake was the major quarry from which iron ore was mined
for the furnace. Laurel Lake supplied water power to Laurel Forge. The
area is within the 696-acre Pine Grove Furnace State Park, which was
entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The park
along Hunters Run Road and state Route 233 offers a variety of
recreational activities."
