[at-l] Trip Report/ Grandpa

About midnight on Monday I got a call from my daughter. She said she was beginning the final approach to making me a Grandpa. She spent the rest of the day and Tuesday night walking and sleeping. At five in the after noon we walked around the block until she had walked the mile we have walked together almost every evening since she became pregnant. At mid night we caught a shuttle to the hospital. When we got there son in law and future grandma and my daughter hiked on ahead while I rested in the waiting room. The boy is a slow hiker!!! He finally made it to the shelter at 6:21 this morning. He weighed 7 lbs. 12 ozs. and is 20.5 inches long. He ate and got cleaned up and then needed to see his grandpa. When I finally made it to the summit he already had his hiking boots on. Baby and mama doing well, Grandpa barely survived. I started giving pointers for his 2022 thruhike. If he is anything like his mama he will not listen and he will do it his way. Pictures will follow

Maine is 95 percent forested and 95 percent of that forest is privately owned. That's why we founded the Appalachian Trail Land Trust to provide a public buffer for the trail corridor that in places is but 200 feet wide and nowhere outside of Baxter Park and a few state lands is it more than a mile wide.

Our current project -- the completion of the protection of Mt. Abraham -- needs $450,000 by September 30. (If all that is needed is delayed, we will borrow the balance, though it will have to be paid back quickly.)

Waiting in the wings are several other projects likely to cost many millions.)

If you can help write us at PO Box 325, Yarmouth, Maine 04096, or visit our website www.matlt.org
