Re: The Purple Heart.

I don?t know anything about John Kerry?s Purple Heart Medal.

A friend was in Viet Nam a few times. One time he met his brother while
there and accompanied him to ?liberate? some plywood, freeing it from the
back of a deuce-and-a-half truck. His brother slid off what he thought was
the top sheet of plywood. It was actually beneath the top sheet and, when
the balance shifted sufficiently, the top sheet slid along the sheet he was
holding onto, until it hit him in the forehead.

His brother waited until morning to get some stitches in his forehead. His
position was shelled during the intervening night.

My friend is quite amused that his brother received a Purple Heart for his
?combat related? wound. His brother never requested the medal; it just
arrived unannounced in the mail sometime following the incident.

Now, before everyone becomes upset, I?m not implying John Kerry ever stole
plywood. My point, instead, is getting the Purple Heart isn?t the same as
justifying medals for bravery. People make assumptions, the overworked
bureaucracy does its job, and they are put in the mail.

If you want some giggles, just imagine what Republicans would be saying
about our President if he was a Democrat - - but with Bush?s character and
record - - running for re-election instead of being a Republican?

[Excepting of course, as a Democrat, he most likely would have funded
programs to assist the lowest 99% of the U.S. instead of giving money to the
highest 1%.]

Steve
