I remember a few years ago we had a bunch of people in town trying to get us to
sign a petition.  The petition supported some extreme moral position and
supporters had imported students from foreign countries to help.

The petition, as written, was harmless--worded so that most people would
respond favorably: those students were amazed that most of us refused to sign. 
What I told one of them was that the Constitution of the Soviet Union was
probably a well written, document supporting the highest values but still, no
American in his right mind would sign it.  It was the big picture that made
that "harmless" petition dangerous.

Until we get some assurances and some history of correct decisions out of the
Forest Service and logging companies that clear cutting is no longer their
preferred method, I think it's reasonable for us to expect that that IS their
preferred method of fire control.


While Panic is not a good plan, neither is apathy nor inaction.
