Shelly asks about leaving your cellphone in your car. She says: "What if you
get back to where you parked your vehicle only to find that it has been
stolen?  It has happened."

That's a legitimate concern.

But a friend of mine has the perfect solution to avoid that. He only leaves
a rusty, beater of a car at trailheads and river put-ins. He never locks it,
yet it's never been bothered.

In fact, he (jokingly) says he leaves the keys on the roof, but no one has
stolen it.
