It sounds like you've never hiked the Jomeokee Trail. It's about 30 minutes
from my house, and we go up there and hike around Pilot Mountain State Park
fairly often.

The 'Trail' is a one mile loop around the base of 'Big Pinnacle', one of two
monadnock peaks in the park (the other is -- wait for it -- 'Little
Pinnacle.') Like most NC state parks, there is a road going to the top of
the mountain, with a small network of trails at the top, and a restroom.
It's a nice place to take people who don't hike for a taste of the
mountaintops.

But the Jomeokee Trail is hardly a wilderness experience, more like the
paved trail in the local park. It just happens to be at the top of the
mountain, and it receives *very* heavy use.

The rehab is a great idea, and long overdue.
