A few years ago there were many posts denying that a certain
grassroots Trail advocacy group had any real impact on the Putnam Mine action. I just
wanted to set the record straight for those who ever doubted. The intention
isn't stirring controversy or vendetta, but simply to show how useful Trail
organization can be. And, yes, perhaps those in the Trail community who naysay
productive efforts a little too quickly should consider.
ATC field representative Morgan Sommerville wrote to Trailplace's
organizer Dan "Wingfoot" Bruce:
" Dan,
Obviously you have heard about this by now. I have been out of the office
since last Tuesday, so I could not e-mail you sooner. Thank you so much for your
critical role in protecting the A.T. on Hump Mtn. The letters you generated to
the State of NC through your website tipped the scale (I am certain!) in
favor of the A.T. in this case. You should be very proud of your part in this
accomplishment, and I, in behalf of ATC, give you my sincere thanks! "
