The Mt Washington Weather Discovery Center in North Conway has a little
booth built that recreates what it would have felt like inside the
building at that time. It has a little "window" so you can watch the
stuff blow by, and the booth shakes as the wind increases, and the dials
record the wind speed. Evidently someone building this figured that one
of those 5 cats that were reported as huddled around the stove, actually
made it outside - it flies past the window at one point! It's a little
corny, but lots of fun. Playing with wind at the hands on stuff all
over that center is lots of fun.
And the people who work there are lots of fun as well. The guy "Crane"
quoted at the end of this piece is Peter Crane. If any of you saw the
"Breakfast of Champions" video in the visitor center on top of Mt
Washington, that was Peter as the 'customer'. I work next door to this
crew, and have gotten to know them - a very very good bunch of people!
