Welcome to the campfire.
Pull up a log & join in.
Hey, whoever has the smashmallows, pass em over.
Chainsaw
BTW -- Don't just sit back a listen, expecting subjects to just come up.
There is an archive at

If you can't find enough discussion, or an answer there, ask a question. We
are a group of friends who are rather like a campfire -- we tend to talk
about a lot of things and forget that new folk to the campfire missed part
of the earlier conversation. So, we are not likely to bring up a subject,
unless something, or someone, brings it to mind.

Subject: [at-l] New Member in Westchester County New York
Hi all, just a brief intro to start off my new membership. I am a travel
nurse on contract in Westchester County NY and hope to be in the area for a
long enough period to get to know the trail in my area and do some volunteer
work on it. I anticipate making further arrangements to stay in the area
until next spring.
While stationed in Maine summer 2003 I visited the AT in Rangley, sort of in
the middle of the state and was hooked.
I decided that I'd like to try a thru-hike (next spring) and joining this
list was part of the prep for that. Looks as though there are plenty of
resources to connect to so I am not overly worried about info gathering but
do need to spend the next year meaningfully determining if I'll be able to
accomplish walking that many miles a day, up slopes, with some minor
orthopedic problems that I have. I'll definitely be consulting with sports
medicine, getting into shape, taking necessary precautions/ hiking at a
doable pace, etc.
I look forward to being a part of the group.
Sincerely,
Michael
