Well, much better answers to the question than what I gave.

One more suggestion......go to the camera manufacturer's site and see if 
there are updated drivers/programs for your camera.  There usually is a 
long lead time between the time the hardware and software is packaged and 
with the time from the demise of W98 as a production animal, you may  find 
the answer on the manufacturer's web site.
