That sounds like a good use of a communication device. But more than that, a
telephone can be used by those who already carry an electronic gizmo called
"Pocket Mail" and if anyone knows who manufactures that please let me know.

Whether one carries anything is up to each individual. Some may be opposed
to "modern devices" and some may appreciate their use. Again, HYOH is the
rule. Of course, I would be offended if someone began getting phone calls in an
area where I was camping and kept up an inane conversation within earshot of
others who were attempting to sleep or just experience the quiet of the night
(or day) in a "wilderness" place.

I agree that First Aid courses should be taken and that First Aid knowledge
is important, but if I was in need of quick aid and a cell phone would get a
rescue squad to a nearby location then I would be grateful that someone had one
along.

Having said that, I hope that my walk on the AT will be a safe one. I will
be aware as I walk.

Valderee!
