[at-l] Sleeping cold

Steve had a great story of sleeping in a cave, and
posed the conjecture that it was colder than sleeping
on snow.

He's right! The rock is a direct heat sink and draws
limitless heat from you quickly. Snow, at least the
light and fluffy dry powder of higher elevations, has
a great deal of air and sucks heat less rapidly,
especially with a tarp underneath you.

Hence, when stopping for a break in cold weather, put
something between yourself and rock, concrete, stumps
or the ground.

The arm anesthesia is a fairly common event. Everyone
can practice this sometime, and many have had this
experience in their youth. Snuggle up with your honey,
allowing their head to rest on you upper arm as a
pillow. They usually find a comfortable spot between
the deltoid and biceps muscles. At first you will
notice a certain pressure and soreness. If you are
fatigued from the cuddling, you might not notice
anything.

Awake a few hours later. Your arm is now numb and
useless, from pressure on nerves that were compressed
between your honey's head and your humerus. It usually
gets better quickly, but can "drag out" for quite a
disturbingly long time. If it really bothers you,
claim dibs for the same side of the bed as your
dominant hand.
