As long as the discussion revolves around stated policies/positions on 
specific issues of interest to us all as hikers (I.E. yesterday candidate X 
came out in favor of more funding for trails) then I agree. Unfortunately 
political "discussion" generally tends to deteriorate into political name 
calling and mud-slinging that bears little relationship to reality and it 
does nothing to contribute to making us informed voters.
