[at-l] Yo, Peak-A-Boo

Peak-A-Boo, here's some insight as to the problem and how to get out of it. (Not all that difficult.) I wrote you a note in your Trail Journal, but here's more:

If you're born of USAmerican parents in ANY Country (including an Armed Forces Base) other than the USA, your parents (or the Military) will register you with the USConsulate or USEmbassy so that you can have "dual" citizenship. Children born to non-USA Citizens are NOT given "dual" citizenship automatically. Children of Illegal Aliens CANNOT register for dual citizenship, because to do so would jeopardize the adults' stay here and place them on the "deportation" list. Children of LEGAL Aliens or visitors on an appropriate VISA/Passport can register their newborns with the appropriate Consulate or Embassy and obtain a dual citizenship for them. Otherwise, the child of Legal Aliens (that 'green card' is no longer green) is a US Citizen and is supposed to obtain a Passport/VISA in order to accompany her parents back to their homeland.

For the 'other' Americans in Canada and Mexico, the parents need to have an official Birth Certificate (not the one with the cute feet on it) when they cross BACK into the USA. Of course, with "Homeland Security" the way it is, my knowledge may be outdated.

For Countries in the Americas other than Canada and Mexico, I think that is also the usual procedure, but I don't have any knowledge so I'd suggest checking with your Country's Embassy or Consulate first if you or your parents were born elsewhere on this Hemisphere and you want to visit your ancestral home.

Many times, Congresspeople will add an amendment to a bill they're fairly sure will pass awarding USA Citizenship to people who have petitioned them and explained why they qualify. Peak-A-Boo, I think you could do the same and be awarded Citizenship.

You'll never know unless you ask.

There are a lot of hikers in your corner.
