Shelly,
Reference your post, dated 1-19-04.
?When we have children, we do not die.?
If you?re referring to a memory of ourselves, as individuals, by the time
our children?s children have children, most of us will be forgotten - -
DEAD. If you?re referring to genetics which are passed on, all organisms
are entitled to the same claim.
?Living life should not be over just because we have become parents.?
I think you?ve hit upon a significant point. You become a parent. Imagine
that! Two people met, each with functioning genitals. They had children.
What are the odds? Gosh! That which made our life worth living, the love
of which is worth passing on, is it now to be diminished solely because we
have children?
?As parents, we should strive to live more.?
Sounds great. I suspect most of us would need to struggle just to live the
same.
?A dead lion is far nobler than a live mouse.? - - Juan Manuel Fangio.
This is obviously absurd, at some level(s), but it also reminds of
sought-after values at another. Live mice do, of course, make the better
parents. Their mouse pups will grow, however, to falsely sing the praises
of mythical lion forebears.
