Not a good option, especially in the early days of a thru hike. Shelters are
going to be crowded. Space often isn't going to be available. If you are "lucky"
you may find early arrivals willing to abandon their shelter spaces to make room
for a shelterless hiker. But I wouldn't count on it.

A basic rule for backpacking is to rely on your own resources, especially for
the basics of food and shelter.

Travel without shelter if you want. But if you do, be prepared also to spend
some cold, wet nights.
