[at-l] Re: Good knife for backpacking...

I used to carry a Swiss Army knife...the "Champ" model.

It's currently seized up and sitting in a drawer. A friend gave me a cheap
"Made in China" knockoff version; that one currently resides in my caving
pack.

I like the toothpick, tweezers and add-on eyeglass screwdriver, etc.

But my Leatherman? has never let me down...
(And the handy carrying case keeps it "at the ready")

I have been carrying a Swiss Army "Classic" for years. It is really just a
pen knife, but it has a small file with screwdriver as a second blade. But
what I really like best about it is the toothpick and the tweezers. The
tweezers are worth the price of the knife all by themselves.

Once upon a time, as I was eating my ice cream at Walasi Yi, I watched some
young male thru hikers comparing their "knives" onthe front steps. Now we
are talking Rambo knives here, small swords, you could take on fully grown
African lions with one of these things and after you were done put your foot
on its body and beat your chest! And they all had one!

Eventually I finished my ice cream and ambled over to them to show them my
knife...they probably are still laughing about the crazy old man and his
"knife"!
