[at-l] Scout knife.

If you don't mind a sheath knife as opposed to a pcoket knife there are some
really excellent small knives that use alloys that keep an edge better than
stainless. Perhaps best of all, and probably cheapest, is a simple "Old
Hickory" paring knife (available in most grocery stores) and a second hand
sheath for it. I have someting very similar that my Grandfather made
himself. Rusts like crazy but as long as you keep it clean and dry it will
cut like nothing else.

Incidentally, not all stainless is created equal. There are stainless steels
and stainless steels. Some are harder but less rust resistant, others are
more rust resistant, but not as hard. Most of the better knife makers use an
alloy that is a good middle of the road choice between rust resistant and
edge keeping. There are a few alloys that are both, but they are typically
too expensive for ordinary use.

Once I knew where I was going, but now I have forgotten. Sometimes my mind
wanders. Sometimes it goes alone, and other times it takes me along...this
isn't one of those times...
