Probably the best method of finding out that information is to call the
hotel, hostel, campground, or business.  I would assume that from time to
time their regulations change, and that the companion or handbook don't
always have the most up to date info.  Those sources usually will have the
phone #'s of these places, so just give your possible drop points a call to
make sure their accepting/allowing you to send/etc.  Also you'll want to
check what hours these places allow you to pick up packages.  As has been
mentioned, some have only one day they allow pickups, some have only a small
window of hours during the day, and other oddities..  So calling's your best
resource.
