[at-l] Happy Holidays

Ah, Weary, but you have season changes. From Central Florida where I was
just outside spending a few minutes adjusting the chlorine in my pool while
wearing only shorts, flip-flops and an old Gator T-shirt, I sometimes miss
being in the white stuff. Well, almost... Things here just go from green
and needing mowing every couple of days to just plain brown.

In a few days I will be heading up to the Ashville/Weaverville area to see
my kids & grandkids, to share a short time with them. I am sure I will get
my fill of the cold and the snow while up there. Might even try to head
over to Springer New Years Eve and see if I can get up the forest road and
toast those that have camped there.

Loading the car up now for the short drive over to my Mom's for a Christmas
dinner and family fellowship that is a rarity these days - always too busy,
in a rush - not taking the time to enjoy those roses... But today we will
be together as families should be on this day.

Take care,

WhoAh

And a Merry Christmas also from the foggy coast of Maine, where despite
record early snow falls this year only an occasional patch remains to be
seen. Isn't nature wonderful?

Ice cakes float with the incoming tide in the stream that divides the marsh.
Buffleheads and wild geese form rafts in the cove, reminding me again of why
I love the four seasons of Maine.

Tuesday, our town land trust closes on the purchase of 64 acres bordering a
wild pond, a dream since about this time of year in 1973. Life is truly
good. Even the gout in my right big toe, that had me hobbling since Sunday,
is disappearing.

Off topic? Not really. I first experienced the symptoms in 1993 on the trail
in North Carolina. The Franklin emergency room doc blamed a staff infection
from a blister. But two subsequent episodes in recent years makes me think
gout probably was the culprit.

Weary, who's wiling away the time, until my wife gets home from work. (hey
someone has to take care of those sick people in the hospitals, even on
Christmas Day.)
