Too true. Most of the SOBOS I know of left the Trail right after
the bitter temps and snows around Thanksgiving. A few struggled on,
making it to Kincorra, then over the wind-torn Humps, but were forced
to skip Roan Mt. They got to Erwin and plan to return in the spring.

The only SOBO pair I know still on the AT are Dr. Doolittle and
Underpants, who just bypassed the Smokies from Hot Springs. They
started south from Fontana this morning, hoping to finish New Year's
Eve at Springer Mt.
There are a number of '03 SOBOS planning to meet there to ring in the
New Year.
I'll likely be there too, if I can make it up the road.
