Hi Casey,

Why not take the new job, work for a couple of years making yourself 
invaluable, and then ask for a leave of absence to hike the trail?  If they 
like you, they will find a way to muddle through while you're gone.

If they say no, then you'll have to reevaluate what's more important to you 
at that time.
