[at-l] The Great Pole Tip Test

I think the problem with Saunterers test is the type of soil. Sand is porous to
water and is composed of large grains which are not easily eroded. It takes
pretty large rain drop to move a grain of sand. Silt and clay are the
predominate soils on the Appalachian Trail.

Silt and clay are the soils that soil scientists know gradually erode in every
rain, despite Jim Os speculation to the contrary. Poking a hole in sand is a
pretty harmless thing, whether with a pointy tip or a broad crutch tip.
