There is no real change here. Pass or fail has always been up to the
instructor.  What has changed is the ability to adapt the length of the
course to the skills of the particular class instead of one size fits all.
In other words, a recertification class of continuously practicing sawyers
could be as little as demonstrate skills and be done in a half day or less,
while rank beginners take two full days.
