[at-l] Letterboxing

In many places letterboxing / geocaching is allowed. Some places require permits, but regardless permission is usually sought, so that your cache doesn't become trash. And geocachers typically practice "cache in / trash out", even leaving special collection bag within caches so that the cachers can clean up the trails on thier way out.

In geocaching there is also a concept of "virtual caches", where the coordinates simply lead you to an interesting spot or view, rather than a physical container.

Of course there is the aspect of Leav No Trace of using durable surfaces, i.e. stay on established trails. Geocaching does often lead you off trail. But for those offended, many caches (and letterboxes) are also placed in suprisingly open, urban locations (e.g. the underside of a park bench, inside the hollow of a mock book at the local library, etc.)
