In 1988 we were allowed to pitch our tents on the large grass area behind the P.O. Worked out well as it was close to the laundry, outfitter, and a couple of restaurants. I have a 1989 Philosopher's Guide and no mention is made of this arrangement so maybe 1988 was the last year this was allowed. Anyone know why this spot was lost to thru-hikers?
