[at-l] KELTY Triptease: 5 reasons to just say 'no'...

Posted to bpl in January -- came up with a sixth, but forgot
what it was.

1) Triptease is too strong.

(What's too strong? Anything that's stronger than your tarp's
tearstrength, for example, will ruin the tarp should that big
wind come up -- or more common -- should someone trip over it.
Let the stake pull out, let the rope break, but *don't* let the
thing damage the equipment being hung. No justification for
that.)

2) Triptease is too thin.

(What's too thin? Anything that, for it's size, could have
tensile pull on it sufficient to damage living tissue if drawn
across it. Like when you trip over it, or when you use it to
bearbag, and end up girdling the limb you're using. Nasty, that.
Kelty says to think of Triptease as wire. Good: leave the wire
at home.)

3) Triptease is too heavy.

(WHAT??? Yes, too heavy. If you compare the $15.00-$20.00
Triptease to $2.00-$3.00 blind cord, available in any fabric
shop with the window blind hardware, it is a good 30%-50%
heavier. And the blind cord is *still* too strong. [see 1)
above.])

4) Triptease is too dark.

(HUHHH? Yes, too dark. That windowblind cord mentioned in 3)
above? Shows up MUCH better that Triptease without a flashlight,
and just as good *with* a flashlight. It's white, whereas
Triptease is yellow/silver. And the silver only shows up on
direct reflection back to the lightsource (good with a headlamp,
not so good with a handheld). Nada without a flashlight.

5) Triptease is too 'spensive.

(See 3) above.)

Man, I feel like such a weenie.
