[at-l] Camping colors

>From a Leave No Trace (LNT) perspective, bright colors are discouraged, except in situations where safety is compromised by low-impact colors (such as during hunting season in areas that allow hunting). Otherwise, LNT suggests subdued colors. I was going to direct you to the reference at LNT.org, but they have overhauled their site and, it seems, removed much of the really good reference material that they used to have online for free. Of course the same info is still available in booklet form for sale from LNT.

Subject: [at-l] Camping colors (suggested by the Jazzman thread)

discussion brought the following topic to mind. Yes, we have discussed
something similar before, but I remember that as being several months ago,
and we have newbies and maybe some oldies who haven't seen it yet.

I like to carry something noticeable when hiking through certain areas.
Partly for hunters. Partly for "herb" growers who love to plant and
gather
near trails in the backwoods. Partly so as to not suddenly disturb others
-- such as young lovers.

I once had a bright orange safety vest. Now I am considering some bright
orange, yellow... tape to hang from my pack: Tape that is like the "police
lines" tape they use around crime scenes. They sell such tape in hardware
and in forestry supply and such stores.

I have also considered bright colorful packs and tents. And clothes.

Now what do y'all think about bright colors in the outback? Which colors
are okay? Which are no-nos? And which wouldn't you be caught dead in if
a
bear mauled you? ;-)

Hmmm... Maybe if I dressed like Pricilla the... HEY! If a straight guy
can hike nekkid why can't he...
