[at-l] Re: WILDALERT: Take Action on Senate Energy Bill

The Wilderness Society offers this advice. "U.S. Senate is expected to vote this
week on comprehensive energy legislation, and the bill (S. 14) is
comprehensively bad.

There are many reasons to vote against this bill, among
them that it would damage the environment, threaten public
health, worsen global warming and throw away once again
the chance to advance clean, efficient energy sources
and technologies.

Will you please take a moment to send a message to your
Senator about the Energy bill? Go to:

to learn more and take action, or read on.

ENERGY LEGISLATION VERY COMPLEX
There are nearly 400 amendments proposed dealing with
a myriad of issues. Ultimately, it would be best if this
fundamentally flawed legislation did not pass at all,
but in the event that it does, there are two amendments
that could have big impacts on oil and gas drilling in
Montana and the Rocky Mountain west. They are:

** A very dangerous amendment by Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT)
that would accelerate oil and gas drilling on Western
public lands that now provide critical fish and wildlife
habitats, clean water supplies for much of the West, and
superb recreational opportunities. This amendment must
be stopped.

**An amendment by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) to protect Montana's
spectacular Rocky Mountain Front from the radical, drill-everywhere
fever of many on Capitol Hill and their big-oil allies.
This amendment needs the support of your Senators.

Ultimately, we'd like you to encourage your Senator to
vote against the whole energy bill (S.14).

You can send your senator a fax to that effect immediately
from

Thank you for helping us to ensure the best possible energy
policy for America and to protect some of our last, great
places!
