[at-l] SOT: Where would you party/ruck?

I would fund an educational initiative in every public schoolhouse in the
nation to raise environmental awareness looking at among other things
littering, waste disposal, the development and application of industrial
technology with the view toward its environmental impact, the formation of
industrial policies, public land acquisition and use, a portion of the
course work would include the physical sciences including the study of the
process of evolution (not just human) and finally the politics of
environmental policy making. The goal would be to encourage students to
focus on ways in which human needs can be satisfied with a minimal impact on
the environment and ways in which human technology might assist in healing
the mess we've made. It would be a multiple year course and be part of the
required curriculum. I don't think the 2nd grade is too early to start.
Kids understand littering by that age.

I know some (few?) schools already cover some (few?) of these issues. I
would do what I could to help make it part of the required curriculum in
every school.

I would also spend the money electing to public office at every level those
who as one of the first orders of business in all their private decisions
and public actions seek to protect and heal the biosphere from the excesses
of man. It is the crucible, the garden, from which our power and our
magnificence has been and is being formed and every living thing in it is
our relative. Without it, hiking is irrelevant. To us much has been given
and from us much is required.
