[at-l] Topical Off Topic Post



Great post (see excerpts below).  I recall reading in college an essay by
uhhhh, uhhhhh,  E.B. White or M. McLuahan or Alfred North Whitehead or some
one like that, to the effect that if he was asked to take down all the
buildings on a college campus except one, if there was only enough money
available for funding one "class", which building would he save?  He answer
was the dormitory.  It's the place where people of different backgrounds and
temperament and belief systems and different kinds of knowledge learn first
hand from each other in a more relaxed and casual environment than a
structured classroom, giving them a much broader education of the human
experience, human creativity, human limits and it makes them better, happier
people with a broader range of choices no matter what they end up doing for
a living.
